Beyonce and Jay-Z dedicated their On The Run II Detroit performance to Aretha Franklin. The couple honored the legend who is severely ill at the moment and is believed to be close to passing away due to the rapid deterioration of her health.
Beyonce took a moment after their first song to share a short message for the diva: “This show is dedicated to Aretha Franklin. We love you, and thank you.”
Concert goers recognize the magnitude of Franklin’s impact on music.
"It hurts my heart. She’s the queen. She will forever have an impact on my soul [...] She is forever gonna be remembered.”
Another fan commented on how Aretha Franklin lives on through younger generations.
“We probably wouldn’t have Beyonce if it wasn’t for Aretha, and that’s what we’re seeing tonight.”
DJ Khalid who also manned the stage paid homage to the sickly singer as well by getting the whole crowd to sing along to one of Aretha’s iconic songs.
Other artists have found ways to honor the queen of soul too. Many have taken to social media to give the artist her due respect and send love and prayer her way. The whole entertainment industry is hopeful for a recovery, despite the unlikeliness of her regaining health.
