Aquaman is set to debut in theatres just in time for Christmas, and will see Jason Momoa reprise his role for the forthcoming DC project. During this year's CinemaCon, Warner Bros. revealed some rough footage in anticipation of the film's debut. The cast and crew have gone on to note how the underwater epic will mirror Indiana Jones, Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings in terms of cinematic scope.
The adaptation of the beloved DC comic book will see Aquaman square off against his corrupt half-brother Orm Marius, alongside a struggle to try and prevent a mounting conflict between sea dwellers and human beings inhabiting the "surface world." The film will also detail its protagonist's backstory in an effort to illuminate the man behind the myth. Director James Wan hopes that this rough footage will allow audiences at CinemaCon to "catch a glimpse of something that may represent the fun film I’m going for."
Alongside Aquaman, DC also revealed some information about two other upcoming releases. Shazam! is envisioned as a superhero version of the 1988 film Big starring Tom Hanks, and is being pitched as a family-friendly fare.
Additionally, Wonder Woman 2 director Patty Jenkins revealed that the sequel to her massively successful first film will be set in the 1980s.
DC is hoping that these projects will help the company distance themselves from the paltry response given to Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman and Justice League from audiences and critics alike.
