Tech manufacturer Royole has officially debuted the world's first commercial foldable smartphone. While the foldable smartphone craze isn't new, Royole looks toward differentiation by labeling its FlexPai device for a smartphone and tablet.
Being able to be used when both folded and unfolded, the device has the "portability of a smartphone plus the screen size of a high-definition tablet.” The FlexPai is outiftted with a 7.8 inch full-color display with 4:3 aspect ratio amd 920 x 1440 reoslution. The unit can be folded from 0 to 180 degrees and offers three screen types when folded: primary, secondary, and edge. The phone also comes with one 20 megapixel camera and another 16 megapixel set while phone calls and photos can be taken from either side of the phone when folded.
“The Royole FlexPai foldable smartphone provides mobile phone users with a revolutionary, different experience compared to traditional phones,” says Dr. Bill Liu, Royole founder and CEO. “It perfectly solves the contradiction between the high-definition large-screen experience and portability, which introduces a whole new dimension to the human-machine interface. The phone’s inherent design will forever change the consumer electronics industry, as well as the way people interact with and perceive their world.”
Currently, the FlexPai developer model is available for purchase with a price tag of $1318 USD.
