The Golden State Warriors eliminated the San Antonio Spurs last night, picking up a 99-91 win in Game 5 at Oracle Arena, which sets up a showdown against Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans in the second round.
After the conclusion of the game, several Warriors players and head coach Steve Kerr sent their love to Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, who lost his wife Erin last week.
During the post-game, Draymond Green was asked about how "underrated" he is but before he could finish giving his response he stopped and said, “I just want to send my love to Pop and his family, again." Kerr added, “Pop, if you’re watching out there, we love you. Our whole team and coaching staff has been thinking about you every day." “Your team reflected who you are tonight. They battled every step of the way, and that was a big-time fight. We’re lucky to get out of here.”
Klay Thompson told reporters, “I can’t imagine how hard it is to go out there and perform under those circumstances,” Thompson said, referring to Erin’s death. “Our hearts are with them and we have nothing but respect for that team. They play the right way and they have great pride.”
The Warriors will now shift their focus to the second round of the NBA Playoffs where they'll take on the New Orleans Pelicans, who completed a sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday. Game 1 of that series has not yet been announced.
