Last night, John Legend took home a Creative Arts Emmy for his work as a producer on Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert. Such an accomplishment officially catapulted Legend into the exclusive group of EGOT winners, the youngest to join their ranks thus far.
For those unfamiliar with their acronyms, "EGOT" stands for "Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, Tony." The status is reserved for multidisciplinary creatives capable of approaching a project from a variety of different angles. While an artist can feasibly land both Oscar and Grammy (both Three 6 Mafia and Eminem have Oscars, for example) the Emmy and Tony might prove difficult territory for the average artist. Yet John Legend's songwriting is clearly universal, which no doubt played a pivotal role in securing him the exclusive status.
Wife Chrissy Teigen showed her husband some well-deserved love, sharing a picture of Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Tim Rice, who also became newly minted EGOT winners. Congratulations to John Legend for this one; winning an EGOT is no easy feat. Now, Legend stands alongside the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg, Mel Brooks, and more.
