Kendrick Lamar is definitely a 'quality over quantity' rapper. Since releasing his debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, to critical acclaim, the rapper has quieted down on the music front, although still doing shows and interviews. After his performance at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC, where he brought out 50 Cent and A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar sat down to talk with MissInfo and revealed that he hasn't started working on his sophomore album yet.
When asked if he had started recording for his second LP, the rapper said, "I haven’t locked in album mode. I write every day, though. I have ideas all the time, but me going in the studio and locking in, making the next album—I don’t wanna force things. I still want to live in this moment. My biggest mistake today is not living in the moment, and understanding everything that’s going on."
He continued, "Right now it would be more of a moment of inspiration," Kendrick said of when the process for the second album will begin. "Being inspired to go back in and be confident in what I want to say next. I don’t think it would be an actual date."
He ends by speaking on New York rapper Joey Bada$$ and gives him high praise. "Joey Bada$$, that dude is crazy," he said of who he's currently listening too. "He ain't afraid to be himself too, and I think hip-hop was built on originality. And it's going back to the essence of that. I'm not saying everyone has to have a concept album or put there words together in a certain way, or story-telling, it just have to have some type of originality where it makes that connection with the people," the Black Hippy member said.
