Chances are, you can easily name one of your favorite Denzel Washington films, should the opportunity present itself. The actor has built an impressive body of work, and has been a part several pioneering films. First emerging in Hollywood for his role in NBC series St. Elsewhere, Washington has since starred in critically acclaimed films like Remember the Titans, American Gangster, The Great Debaters, Inside Man, and The Magnificent Seven. Washington has even played the role of director, working behind the scenes in Antwone Fisher and The Great Debaters.
It has recently been announced that Washington has been selected as the 47th recipient of the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award. “Denzel Washington is an American icon,” shared Howard Stringer, chair of the American Film Institute Board of Trustees. “As an actor, he stands tall as a heroic, stoic embodiment of the best in all of us, and he does so with heart, humanity, and one of the brightest smiles to ever light up the screen. Equally formidable as director and producer, he is a creative force to be reckoned with — and one of the most vital, relevant artists working today. AFI is proud to present him with its 47th Life Achievement Award.”
Washington is set to receive the award on June 6, 2019, in Los Angeles. The awards ceremony will air on TNT at a later date.
