De'Aaron Fox joined an elusive club that only consisted of LeBron James, that was until yesterday when the Kings locked horns with the Atlanta Hawks. Fox became the 2nd youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double consisting of 30 or more points, a mark only bested by LeBron by a few month's time.
To put things in perspective, De'Aaron Fox is still too young to buy a scotch & soda in a local tavern, his 21st birthday will have to wait another seven weeks. At the risk of being pedantic let's skim past King James' exploits, in contemplation Fox sky-high potential, in the advent of a colossal performance against the Hawks? It's worth asking: Is Fox the catalyst the Kings franchise has been lusting over all this time? For as long as the team has been without a talisman like Chris Webber perhaps?
Last night, De'Aaron Fox repaid the faith bestowed upon him by management. He closed the 146-115 win against the Hawks on monster-high, his final stat line consisting of 34 points, 10 rebounds, and 15 assists. He even abdicated his "position under the basket" to Willie Cauley-Stein in the dying seconds, in sensing he already had a historic triple-double in the bag, letting his teammate grab an uncontested rebound for his own tally. While LeBron holds the aforementioned distinction of being the youngest player to post a 30+ point triple-double, Fox did break Magic Johnson's NBA record as the with a 30-point, 15-assist, and 10-rebound game. LeBron was 5 assists of that record when he posted his impressive stat line in 2015.
De'Aaron and the Kings fly to Milwaukee to face the Bucks on Sunday. How do you see De'Aaron projecting in the future?
