He's back, y'all.

Empire is taking on a new recurring character. The hit show welcomes singer Mario to the cast for its fifth season. New episodes of the musical drama are set to air on Fox on Wednesday, September 26.

Mario's character is described as “an earnest, up-and-coming R&B singer who supports his ailing sister.” Both Empire Records and Lyon Family Management will be placing bids on the artist, competing to sign him as a new act under one of their rosters. This upcoming season follows the Lyon family's journey towards regaining the empire they lost at the end of the last season.

This acting gig won't be the first for the RnB singer. He made his onscreen debut over a decade ago, starring in popular shows like Marvin and Sabrina The Teenage Witch. His role as Miles Darby in the 2006 production of Step Up might be his most high-profile acting offering until now.

On a musical tip, Mario has been journeying since his classic debut, a self-titled record that dropped in 2002 and became gold certified. He is most known for his earlier hits, such as "Just a Friend 2002" and "Let Me Love You," which stems from his second album entitled "Turning Point," a 2004 release.
