Earlier this month, Young Thug announced that his new album, Slime Language, would be released on July 15th before deleting the tweet. Today is July 15th, and it appears Thug is still working on the project, though judging by his latest collaborator, it should be worth the wait. Sharing a clip on his Instagram story, Thug revealed that he was in the studio recording with Chance The Rapper. Just to make it clear, he tagged the post #SlimeLanguage. Though he has not given an update on the project since his retracted announcement -- other than the fact that it's coming "soon" -- it seems likely that it will not arrive as planned today.
Thug and Chance previously collaborated on "Mixtape" from Chance The Rapper's Coloring Book album. Later they released another track called "Big Bs."
In a recent interview on Pitchfork's In Sight Out podcast, Chance spoke of how Thug has inspired him as an artist. "He's super dope and I don't want to give away all his secrets but he showed me a lot of stuff and one of the things that has helped me a lot later in my career, towards the end of Coloring Book and the stuff I'm working on now is a process called punch cutting," he said. "Instead of using a pen and try to write an entire piece and then attack it on the mic separately and hope that all the inflections and rhythms you had in mind when you wrote it are still there, you write it by recording it."
Just a few hours ago, Thug was spotted in the studio with his favorite engineer Alex Tumay. Stay tuned for further updates on the impending project.
