In today's face-palm worthy news... Groupon has just issued an apology for using the "n" word to advertise a pair of boots on their website. This issue comes just days after Chance the Rapper called out Heineken for using questionable tactics to sell their brand of light beer. Additionally, yesterday, a women's lacrosse team was under fire for rapping the racial slur without care during a singalong of Lil Dicky & Chris Brown's "Freaky Friday." Earlier today, popular video game streamer Ninja rapped the "n" word in a Logic song that does not even contain the word. Once again, a mishap on the end of a retailer has caught the attention of people in what seems absolutely unacceptable in 2018.
Groupon was using the word to sort colors for a pair of women's boots, listing them as "N---er brown." While social media users have singled out a specific pair of mocassin-style boots, the description was reportedly used to describe several pairs of boots. According to TMZ, the company's VP of Global Communications has issued a statement regarding the matter, saying, "We are appalled that this language was displayed on our site ... this is completely unacceptable and violates our policies -- to say nothing of our values."
Completely unacceptable is an understatement. The VP added that the product was removed from the website and the third-party vendor was also booted from the site. Hopefully, there are no further "n" word scandals for a while because it's becoming more and more cringe-worthy every time. Check out the ad and read more here.
