Madonna Is Hung Up Over New Music, Thinks It's Formulaic

Madonna thinks "everyone sounds the same."

Madonna, one of the biggest pop stars of her time and of all time, told Vogue Italia recently that she's not a fan of new music. Speaking from Lisbon, where she's moved so that one of her kids can pursue a career in professional soccer, she touched on music, politics and her personal life. She cited political instability as the other reason for her move out of the States:"I wanted to get out of America for a minute – as you know, this is not America’s finest hour – not that leaving America makes anything different or changes anything."

In Lisbon, she's been hanging out with local musicians. It was the discussion of this local scene that prompted her scorn of American music:

It’s also such a nice antidote to what’s going on in the music business now where everything’s so formulaic, and every song has 20 guest artists on it, and everyone sounds the same. Something’s gotta give.

Perhaps Madonna, who turns 60 in five days, thinks that "something" will be her new album. Maybe so, but it doesn't excuse her dismissive comments regarding new music (ie. hip-hop). Granted, hip-hop has a lot of features, but what's wrong with that? And everything being "so formulaic"? Surely Madonna must realize that she is the queen of the pop song formula. Perhaps the antidote she's looking for could come in the form of Travis Scott:
