Nike has announced official release details for the latest creation of Virgil Abloh's Off-White brand, which comes in the form of a Nike Mercurial Vapor 360 soccer cleat.
The special edition cleats, or "boots" as some may call them, come in a beaming orange colorway, complete with several dots across the knit upper that are designed to help the wearer recognize where he or she should hit the ball.
“For this Mercurial, I was interested in bridging the gap between foot and eye coordination,” says Abloh. “All the dots on the boot represent an optimal place to strike the ball.”
“In my approach, I thought about what it would be like if I saw someone wearing the boot,” says Abloh, who assumed a stopper role during his high school playing days, according to Nike. “Design is a powerful tool, as it communicates energy and a message, and it offers a unique capacity to make someone do a double take on-pitch — I feel like it would be intimidating to see this boot.”
The exclusive spikes will be available to purchase via Nike.com on Saturday, March 31, the same day that Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé will debut them on the pitch.
