The idea of an ODB biopic is a risky proposition. In the wrong hands, the film could run the risk of portraying the deceased Wu-Tang member as a drug-addled so and so. But alas, the project will be undertaken by RZA, who evidently has major insight into the man & the myth. When ODB passed away in 2004, he left behind a treasure trove filled with incredulous stories, some of which we hope to discover through this motion picture.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony's Columbia Pictures is responsible for enlisting RZA as the producer. This isn't the first we hear of an ODB biopic or RZA's association with said project. Back in 2016, RZA told Rolling Stone that after seeing Straight Outta Compton, he started to believe in in the possibility of the Wu-Tang narrative finding its way to the silver screen. "With the proper team and marketing, many of us out here who grew up on this music would love to see the inside makings of those stories," said RZA
The same sources who broke the story have stated that a search for the ideal director is well underway. Of late, biopics have become massive cash cows for production houses like Sony Pictures. Keep in mind, a Gucci Mane biopic is already in the early stages of development. Keep it peeled.
