TM88, Southside, Valee, and Lil Boat link up for a banger.

Following their recent drop with Gunna, TM88 and Southside have returned with another banger, this time enlisting Lil Yachty and Valee for the occasion. The track itself, "Hmmm," premiered today as Beats 1's World Record, marking another one for engineer Alex Tumay's books. Let's take a moment to pay respects to the producers and engineers who often play a pivotal behind-the-scenes role in catapulting emerging rappers into prominence.

The beat itself is ominous yet hard-hitting, as we've come to expect from both TM88 & Southside given their respective track records. Icy arpeggiated chimes plunk in progression over rapid-fire percussion, hallmark staples of a "dark banger." The energy is a far cry from that of Boat and Valee, who float matter of factly over the militant instrumental, making aloofness sound like an art form.

We've already seen both Boat and Valee develop chemistry with one another, starting with the CHASETHEMONEY produced "Wombo." It seems like they have built on the foundation they previously laid, as this effort is notably stronger than the previous one. There remains a sense of devil-may-care in their respective deliveries, but it is not without its charm. Check out the single now, and look for more music from TM88 and Southside's fruitful union.

Quotable Lyrics

My two door belong in an expo, it's red like a new jar of ragu
I'm sitting in a plane but not by you
My window seat Eryka Badu
You know I can't tell a bitch I do
You can't show these n***as what you do
