Although that whole controversy over Beyonce and Jay-Z's trip to Cuba seems like it happened ages ago, it appears that people in politics still haven't let it go. Following the trip, many people spoke out against Bey and Jay, and even Obama, questioning why the power couple was allowed to visit Cuba on vacation. President Obama addressed the situation, saying that it had nothing to do with the White House, but rather a group that organizes educational trips to Cuba.
It appears some people still aren't satisfied though. Huffington Post reports that a bill that has just made its way out of a House Appropriations subcommittee could restrict travel to countries deemed U.S. adversaries, that is, if congressional Republicans get their way.
The bill would limit the use of "Department of Treasury funds to approve travel-related or other transactions incident to non-academic educational exchanges," which is the type of funds that allowed Jay and Queen Bey got to travel to Cuba.
Rep. Jose Serrano (D-N.Y.), who opposes the bill, called it "the Jay-Z and Beyonce Bill," saying it's in direct response to the couple's trip earlier this year.
One of the subcommittee members, Chairman Ander Crenshaw (R-Fla.), seemed to affirm this, saying to Politico that Beyonce and Jay-Z's trip "was an example of how the guidelines are not being enforced. I think that if we’re going to say that we have this policy in place that relates to travel in Cuba that it ought to be enforced and that becomes a grey area where they’re probably not really following the guidelines."
