After spending five months of a two-to-four-year conviction in prison for a technical violation of his probation, Meek Mill was released after receiving support from all corners of the world. Embarking on a vast media tour upon his release, Meek spoke with numerous television and news outlets to ensure that people knew of the injustices he and many others have faced in the criminal justice system. The rapper's attorneys have also been very outspoken along the way, providing updates while he was locked up and attempting to have his conviction overturned for months. His legal team is still working on getting Judge Genece Brinkley, who they believe has an unusual, personal interest in the trial, off the case. Joining the ladies of The View, Meek spoke out further about what he's facing moving forward.
Having to abide by the rules of his probation since he was 19-years-old, 31-year-old Meek Mill told Whoopi and Co. about how he's working to improve criminal justice reform. Along with Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin and Jay-Z, Meek is looking to bring awareness to not only his case but the laws that have been put in place to "keep people like [himself] in those types of situations." With his original arrest dating back to before bodycams and cell phone videos were a thing, Meek had very little pull when it came to his word against a cop. Now that he has such a platform, he's using it to inform people of how badly reform is needed in the justice system.
Meek's most recent attempt to have Judge Genece Brinkley removed from his case was unsuccessful but it's virtually guaranteed that his attorneys will continue to fight for him.
