The home that Aretha Franklin lived in from the late 1990s until she moved into a condominium for the last year of her life is up for sale for only $800,000. The 4,148-square foot brick mansion boasts two stories, a sauna, and a marble-floored kitchen in Bloomfield Township, a gated community outside of the city.
Eyewitness News reports that the suburb was the most expensive real estate market in the Midwestern state of Michigan and Aretha purchased the home for $1.2 million in 1997. Aretha died of pancreatic cancer two months ago and did not leave a will, leaving her assets up in the air without proper claim on who is to receive them.
“I tried to convince her that she should do not just a will but a trust while she was still alive,” Don Wilson, a lawyer in Los Angeles who worked with Franklin said, via PEOPLE. “She never told me, ‘No, I don’t want to do one.’ She understood the need. It just didn’t seem to be something she got around to.”
