Whilst in Chicago during her massive tour for her Melodrama album, Grammy-award-winning artist Lorde decided to pay her respects to the hometown hero, Kanye West.
A little over halfway through her 18 song set, Lorde blessed the audience with an a capella rendition of Kanye's 808's and Heartbreak single, "Love Lockdown." She followed this up with a cover of "Runaway," one of the standout tracks from Kanye's critically acclaimed album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. She added her own spin to the song, however, mashing up the track with one of her own, her Melodrama ballad, "Liability."
Lorde has been known to pay respects to artists she admires by covering songs in their respective cities. In Minneapolis, she paid her respects to the late artist Prince with a cover of "I Would Die 4 U." In Nebraska, she opted to do another mash-up cover, this time with Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire," combined with "400 Lux," a track off her debut album Pure Heroine. She's also been known to perform a rendition of Frank Ocean's "Solo" during each of her sets on the tour thus far.
It's always cool to see artists wear their influences on their sleeves, and it's even cooler when it's someone as iconic as Kanye West. Lorde must agree, as according to a tweet from one of the attendees of the show, she ended her Love Lockdown cover by exclaiming that "It must be nice to come from the same place as Kanye West."
