"My Dear Melancholy," was almost something much brighter.

The Weeknd caught everybody by surprise when he dropped his latest EP, My Dear Melancholy,. The project promised a return to the darkness exemplified by his earlier work of the Trilogy, and the project ended up debuting at the top of the Billboard charts, making it his third consecutive number 1 album.

Apparently, we almost got a completely different project out of the Weeknd, but the darkness in his heart caused it to scrap it. In a recent interview with Time Magazine, the "Starboy" singer confessed that he had an entire project ready to go of songs that were much more on the positive end of the spectrum.

"Prior to Melancholy, I had a whole album written, done," he says. "Which wasn’t melancholy at all because it was a different time in my life." This tape was created, presumably, when he and Selena Gomez were still a couple, and therefore the breakup between the two might have caused Abel to go back to his old ways.

"It was very upbeat—it was beautiful," Weeknd continues.

While there are rumors that he and his old flame Bella Hadid are back in a relationship, that doesn't mean we'll be hearing those tracks from The Weeknd any time soon.

"I don’t want to perform something that I don’t feel," says The Weeknd. If asked if we'll ever hear the songs off the project, he replies, "Never."

As for the dating rumors, Abel admits in the article that he is "without a doubt" still single.
