Anthony Bourdain tragically took his own life last week at the age of 61. The world traveler and renown chef who has inspired the nation to travel hungry was found unresponsive in his hotel room by his close friend French chef Eric Ripert. Bourdain hanged himself with a belt. His passing continues the heartbreaking pattern of suicides, with Kate Spade also taking her own life in the same week.
Fans of Bourdain realized that Netflix would be taking his show Parts Unknown off the streaming site in their regular monthly catalog update, and began to petition for the series to stay put. According to CNN, Tanner Palin started the petition to keep the show, and it garnered over 6,000 signatures. "Bourdain lived life like he treated so many of the dishes he consumed. By gnawing it to the bone. So many of us could learn to live just a little more like that," Palin wrote in the online petition. "Netflix, this show isn't just entertaining. It is heartwarming, it is honest and it benefits human kind. Please keep it on the air."
Netflix, a company famous for having amazing customer interaction, responded to the petition by extending the stay of Parts Unknown. "Some fans have noticed that Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown was scheduled to come off Netflix US on June 16. As of today, we’ve extended our agreement that will keep Parts Unknown on the service for months to come," Netflix wrote on Twitter.
