If Terrell Owens doesn't want to show up to his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction, then the Pro Football Hall of Fame won't acknowledge him during enshrinement weekend in Canton, Ohio next month. Last month, the star wide receiver declined his invitation to the Hall of Fame ceremony, announcing that he'd rather celebrate one of the most memorable days of his life elsewhere.
As a result, the Hall will focus on those who will be in attendance, such as Brian Dawkins, Ray Lewis and Randy Moss.
"The focus is on the guys who are here," Hall of Fame executive director Joe Horrigan told the Talk of Fame Sports Network on Thursday, according to ESPN. "There's no reason to bring him up as an individual. He's not here."
That said, Horrigan says Owens' name will be included when the whole class is announced, and his photograph will appear in materials about the Hall of Fame weekend. As for the commemorative gold jacket that is traditionally presented at the ceremony - Owens' will reportedly be mailed to him first thing Saturday morning.
A third-round draft selection of the San Francisco 49ers in 1996, T.O. ranks eighth all time in receptions (1,078), second in receiving yards (15,934) and third in receiving touchdowns (153). After spending the first eight seasons of his 15-year NFL career in San Fran, Owens moved on to the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.
He was voted into the Hall in February, along with Brian Dawkins, Ray Lewis, Randy Moss, Brian Urlacher, Jerry Kramer, Bobby Beathard and Robert Brazile. The Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 4 at 7:00pm ET.
