Rappers Jay Rock (L) and Kendrick Lamar perform onstage during day 1 of the 2012 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival at the Empire Polo Field on April 13, 2012 in Indio, California.
Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and more are featured in episode 1 of Jay Rock's documentary.

With Jay Rock's upcoming album, Redemption, dropping this Friday, Rock is getting people familiar with his life story in the new documentary series, Road to Redemption.

The first episode, which dropped today, outlines where Jay Rock came from, and how he got started in the rap game, all the way to him getting signed to a major label deal with Warner Bros.

Out of all the rappers on TDE's roster, Jay Rock has always filled the role of the aggressive street rapper. While his label mates ensure that he's not as scary in real life, his music does reflect the environment that he was raised in.

As the first rapper signed to TDE, his come up story is synonymous with the record label's, plenty of time is spent detailing how Rock was present for the signing of all the other Black Hippy members. Speaking of, most of the TDE roster is present in the documentary with commentary on their impressions of Jay Rock, including Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q, Isaiah Rashad, Punch, and Mixedbyali.

The documentary is primarily constructed from old footage, which contains some cool moments. For instance, a young Kendrick Lamar in the center of a freestyle cypher, and the shooting of early music videos.

This is only episode one, titled "Follow Me Home," the same as his first album. Chances are then, that we'll have at least two more episodes named after Rock's other albums: 90059 and Redemption. You can watch the first episode of the documentary series down below.
