At first glance, it seems like an unknown band called Los Unidades somehow managed to score a collaboration with Pharrell. Once the vocals drop, however, listeners are likely to recognize them as belonging to the equally-famed Chris Martin. According to the song's credits, Coldplay's band members have crafted this single under the Spanish moniker that loosely translates to "unity" or "oneness", though an official announcement of the "new" formation has yet to be made.
Amongst the contributions of these well-loved musicians, Miriam Makeba's voice might be the sweetest addition to this track. Her tone pierces through, reminding us of the African singer's position as a music legend. "E-Lo" also features new blood with Jozzy, an LA-based singer/songwriter and rapper who has worked with the likes of Ciara, Chris Brown, and Usher.
"E-Lo" is part of Global Citizen EP 1, a collection of 4 tracks curated by Chris Martin. The project is set for release on November 30, ahead of the "Mandela 100" Global Citizen festival next month.
Quotable Lyrics
And there's nowhere I'd rather be
When they give with one hand
And take with the other
On the day all the hands go free
Then the sun's gonna shine
The sun's gonna shine on me
