Burger joint Carl's Jr. accidentally triggered a twitter beef with Warner Bros. Studios yesterday.
The legendary movie studio premiered their latest film, Ready Player One yesterday in Hollywood. In celebration of the Steven Spielberg film release, Carl's Jr. decided to do a promotion for the film. "BIG NEWS GUYS!! As a tribute to the legendary director of #ReadyPlayerOne, we’re going to change the name of our Charbroiled Sliders to #SpielBurgers," tweeted Carl's Jr. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. was not down with the free promo.
In response, Warner Bros. tweeted, ".@CarlsJr Appreciate the #ReadyPlayerOne love but this is not approved."
Carl's Jr. refused to give up though, and pressed the movie studio for the director's personal information so that they could contact him themselves. Once again, they were shot down.
The fact that someone at Warner Bros. studio took the time out of their day to bicker with Carl's Jr. is epic and hilarious. In one last attempt, Carl's Jr. tweeted at the movie studio that they would go about contacting Speilberg on their own.
The SpielBurgers movement might have been a clever marketing ploy, but unless they wished to be taken to court, Carl's Jr. should quit while they're ahead. Ready Player One hits theaters on March 29.
