While the British grime invasion that was supposed to be started by Skepta didn't really pan out the way it was supposed to, a lot of new artists were still introduced to American audiences. One of those artists was Jme, Skepta's literal blood brother and founding member of his Boy Better Know record label/crew.
While Jme's standout verse on Skepta's Konnichiwa track, "Thats Not Me," might have gained him a few fans, it doesn't seem like all that interested in actually providing them with any new music, at least, not any new grime music.
Yesterday on Twitter, Jme announced his response to people who keep pleading with him for new music, telling them that it's coming, but it's not what they think it's going to be. Rather than dropping new grime tracks, he's becoming an R&B artist.
Jme further expands on his point, claiming he's going to go all the way in matching the aesthetics of a typical R&B star, and even expands his genre switch to "avant-garde death metal" as well. He also throws a shot at Fortnite: Battle Royale, just because.
Jme hasn't released a project since his critically acclaimed album Integrity>, which dropped back in 2015. However, he's been steadily appearing in features on other artists' tracks, so there's no reason to believe that he's being serious when he says that he's quitting grime for good. That being said, it would be pretty cool to see Jme try his hand at a new genre, especially "avant-garde death metal."
