Hot 97 instructed its head anchors to tease a massive Summer Jam announcement and as of today, the hammer has finally dropped. The big news item seems to be the inclusion of Meek Mill to its festival lineup. For obvious reasons, the festival lineup was coordinated ahead of time, but with Meek's release it seemed only logical to extend a hand.
Meek Mill will join a lineup that already includes Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, A$AP Ferg, Tory Lanez, Rich the Kid, A Boogie, Famous Dex, Jay Critch, and even a few Dancehall artists for a change of pace. "We are happy to welcome our man Meek Mill to the Summer Jam stage," said assistant program director Ebro Darden in announcement this morning. "He has been through hell and what he needs is mad love and our continued support."
The media package teasing his appearance was taped well in advance. In it, the Hot 97 crew formally invites the Philly rapper to join the proceedings, Meek Mill replying that "New York is his second home." To mark the occasion, Hot 97 will donate $10,000 to Justice League NYC, an organization that lobbied for Meek's release while he was incarcerated. Justice League NYC continues to strive towards "true criminal justice reform" by working hand in hand with the New York Comptroller's office.
