The past few weeks have been nothing but eventful for Meek Mill. The Philly rapper release from prison came at short notice and he made his first public appearance at the 76ers game where he rung the ceremonial bell. Since then, he's spoke publicly on the need for prison reform, including a meeting with Donald Trump that he reportedly denied. He also graced the Rolling Loud and Summer Jam stages within the past month. However, he's still battling for his freedom. Since his sentence, his legal team has worked relentlessly to get Judge Genece Brinkley off the case. Despite the multiple motions they've filed, they're still getting shot down.
The PA Supreme Court denied Meek Mill's request to remove Judge Genece Brinkley off the case, TMZ reports. The Pennsylvania's Supreme Court is split on the decision with three supporting the motion while the other three denying it. However, Meek Mill and his legal opportunity will have the chance to bring the matter up again after the June 18th hearing in front of Judge Genece Brinkley.
The three justices who've supported Meek's motion to remove the Judge says she should have already recused herself because of "her continued involvement has created an appearance of impropriety that tends to undermine public confidence in the judiciary."
However, the split decision between Judge Genece Brinkley's removal could've leaned either way but Justice Kevin didn't vote for some reason.
Meek's attorney, Joe Tacopina said that he's still hopeful about getting Genece Brinkley removed.
"We remain hopeful that the overwhelming amount of evidence in this case – and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s backing – will prompt Judge Brinkley to grant Meek a new trial, failing which we will promptly pursue all appellate remedies available to right this terrible injustice." Tacopina said.
