Margot Kidder was found dead in her home back in May, and the Superman actress was reported to have passed in her sleep. Kidder became a legend after playing Lois Lane alongside Christopher Reeve's Superman. According to the Associated Press, it has been revealed that Kidder's death was actually a suicide. Kidder lived in the Montana town of Livingston, which is a secluded area near Yellowstone National Park. A statement released Wednesday (Aug. 8) by Park County coroner Richard Wood said that Kidder “died as a result of a self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose” and that no additional details would be issued.
Maggie McGuane, Kidder’s daughter by her ex-husband Thomas McGuane, claimed that she knew the moment she saw her mother's body that it was a suicide. “It’s a big relief that the truth is out there,” McGuane stated. “It’s important to be open and honest so there’s not a cloud of shame in dealing with this.” Montana has one of the highest suicide rates in the country. “It’s a very unique sort of grief and pain,” McGuane added. “Knowing how many families in this state go through this, I wish that I could reach out to each one of them.”
