With last year's experience having names like Kid Cudi, Migos, DJ Khaled, Bryson Tiller and others on the card, BET had to outdo themselves for their annual party in Los Angeles, bringing out some of the hottest voices that hip-hop currently has to offer. While Chris Brown, SZA, Rae Sremmurd and more were slated to perform from the jump, the media outlet has been steadily adding names to the affair, ensuring that they can combat other festivals to include the best possible line-up. Adding Lil Pump, Teyana Taylor, and Meek Mill to the roster in the last few weeks, Kevin Gates has taken the liberty of announcing himself for the show, marking his first on-stage appearance since his release from prison.
Gates hasn't had the most luck since becoming free in January as, well, he wasn't entirely free until very recently. The rapper was effectively Chained to the City, much like the name of his most recent EP, with authorities restricting him from leaving the state of Illinois. Reuniting with his family in California just last month, Gates was forced to cancel his shows at JMBLYA and Rolling Loud. Now that he's able to get back on the road, Gates is making the most of his full freedom by booking June 24 for his show at The Novo in Downtown L.A. The performance will be part of the BET Experience 2018 and, with Kevin back at it full-time, it's sure to be just his first show of a bunch this year.
Welcome back, Gates! The game missed you.
