President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un of North Korea have now officially met one-another Tuesday morning local time in Singapore ahead their historic summit. Mr. Trump said he thinks it will be a "terrific relationship," and Kim, through a translator, said North Korea had to overcome a number of "obstacles" to get to this moment.
The two were seen smiling & shaking hands against the backdrop of U.S. and North Korean flags, before entering Singapore‘s Capella resort together for a one-on-one meeting with the help of two translators.
“I feel really great. Going to have a great reception," Trump said. "And tremendous success, going to be tremendously successful. And it is my honor and we will have a terrific relationship ahead.”
Mr. Trump and Kim are participating in a one-on-one meeting, with translators only, followed by an expanded meeting including their top advisers and a working lunch. They are primarily there to discuss North Korean nuclear program that has advanced at least to the brink of being able to strike the continental U.S., a threat that Trump says he will not tolerate. However in reality, it seems to be a political move by Trump, to show that he’s a dealmaker with the midterm elections coming up, but a risky move at that.
It remains unclear whether the meeting will produce any tangible promises, but so far things look to be going smoothly.
