Like the Charlotte Hornets, the Orlando Magic franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary this upcoming season. And like the Hornets, the Magic have plans to wear special edition retro uniforms for select games in honor of the big 3-0.
The classic, blue pinstriped uniforms serve as a nod to the road jerseys worn by the likes of Shaquille O'Neal, Penny Hardaway, Nick Anderson, Dennis Scott and Horace Grant from 1994 until 1998. With the exception of the Nike and Disney logos on the jersey, the 2018 rendition looks very much like the beloved retro, including the star logo in place of the "A" in "Orlando" across the chest. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the team has not yet revealed how often they'll wear these throwback uniforms.
In addition to the uniforms, the Magic have also rolled out a special edition 30th anniversary logo that includes the same blue basketball image and stars that were used in the franchise’s first logo in 1989.
The Orlando Sentinel reports team officials released photos of the new logo and the throwback jersey to people who were the franchise’s season-ticket holders in 1989, but additional plans for celebrating the team's 30th anniversary will be revealed at a later date.
