Apple is making consumers wait another year until they enter the streaming game with some original television productions. According to the New York Times, the tech giant is slated to unleash their new series as soon as March 2019 into the summer of that same year.
However, Apple seems to be keeping details about how they will deliver their programs to the masses under wraps for now. Some industry execs are speculating that the company will adopt a subscription model form akin to Netflix and HBO. Others have noted that Apple may intend to stream these original series' for free alongside other offerings.
Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, who were previously the co-presidents of Sony Pictures Television, joined Apple in the summer of 2017 to oversee their forthcoming original programming sector.
Since Van Amburg and Erlicht have become a part of this budding new endeavour, Apple has been able to vet some interesting projects chalk-full of major star wattage. These upcoming productions will include a psychological thriller via M. Night Shyamalan, a morning talk-show drama starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, a revival of Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories alongside other televisual efforts.
Apple has revealed that they have an annual budget of $1 billion to spend on producing original content.
