Janelle Monáe, in the lead up to her new album, Dirty Computer, has announced that a 44-minute short film, Dirty Computer: An Emotion Picture, will air on MTV and BET simultaneously. According to Paste Magazine, the film, which will act as a companion piece to the album, will air on both channels on April 26, one day before the release of her new album.
Janelle has already provided fans with enough to get them excited about the new album, with four new tracks and a very pink-centric music video, this new short film should be enough to push them over the edge. We've already seen a sneak preview of the film before, in the bizarre trailer she dropped to announce the album, so expect even more weirdness to come.
The plot of the film is described in a press release as, "a visually stunning story of a young woman named Jane 57821 (Monáe), who is living in a totalitarian near-future society where citizens are referred to as ‘computers’." Janelle's albums have always dealt with themes of technology and futurism, so hopefully she'll get the chance to fully expand on that concept here, especially considering our own society's ever increasing dependence on technology.
Janelle is set to star in the film, alongside Creed and Thor: Ragnarok actress, Tessa Thompson. It will be co-directed by Andre Donoho and Chuck Lightning, with Janelle producing the film herself.
You'll be able to catch the premiere of Dirty Computer: An Emotion Picture, when it airs April 26, on MTV and BET.
