The show's veteran breaks down his experience.

Saturday Night Live's season debut came through with a bang. The impact was sensational and somewhat confusing with Kanye West's guest appearance. The rapper who seems to be on a kind of manic streak made headlines for hijacking the stage with a pro-Trump rant, "Maga" hat on his head and all. Kenan Thompson, who is a longtime resident on the comedy program, explained how he experienced the whole spectacle fromt he sidelines.

The subject came up during his interview with Seth Meyers on Late Night. Thompson qualifies Kanye's appearance as a "circus" he was happy to have preemptively withdrawn from.

"We're all entitled to our opinion. I don't know if that's the moment necessarily to hold people hostage like that."

Although Keenan could not have anticipated the "Kanye West-led circus," he was happy to be excluded when he realized what was about to go down.

"I was just thinking that I would rather watch the performance on TV. Sometimes I like to watch the musical performances like how everybody would see it on TV as a viewer."

"As soon as he said, 'Hey, join me onstage everybody.' I was like,'Oh, there goes the little cheese in the mousetrap.' I felt so bad for these guys because it's hard to stand there and not be able to debate somebody who is so far against your personal opionion as well, and just stand there and take it."

The comedian specifies that they try to make every guest feel at ease.

"When musical gets come and they're a little bit crazy, we let them have that."
