"If I’m not starting and he’s starting, he’s going to be ready to go."

The Los Angeles Lakers brought in several new role players this off-season in addition to the superstar signing of LeBron James (and Michael Beasley). Among the players that Magic Johnson brought in is veteran point guard and NBA champion Rajon Rondo, a player that some critics believe won't be accepting of a role coming off the bench.

However, Rondo appears ready and willing to do whatever is asked of him, including acting as a mentor to the Lakers' young point guard. In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, the 33-year old guard was asked if he is more interested in helping Lonzo grow or competing with him to take the starting job.

He tells TMZ (H/T USA Today), "Whatever they ask me. My main objective is to win. I’m here to help develop Lonzo as much as possible. If I’m not starting and he’s starting, he’s going to be ready to go and ready for anybody that comes his way. And we’ll be ready to roll." He added, "As a whole, as a team, I’m looking forward to getting together with all the young guys and even the older guys and put our minds together and figure out the best way to get W’s."

The Lakers finished with a 35-47 record this past season but have made several changes to the roster this summer, including the additions of Rondo, LeBron, Lance Stephenson, Michael Beasley and JaVale McGee, while allowing Julius Randle to walk as a free agent. Vegas sportsbooks have pegged the Lakers' over/under win total for the upcoming season at 48.5.
