Oprah's is accused of ripping off a woman's screenplay.

A screenwriter named Shannan Lynette Wynn is suing Oprah Winfrey over copyright infringement. She claims that a script written by her and a Pastor Lester Eugene Barrie titled "Justice & Glory" was passed to her and later rejected. Wynn alleges that the main premise of her screenplay was ostensibly ripped off by Oprah in the writing of her television series Greenleaf.

Oprah's television production of Greenleaf follows a powerful church authority and their struggle to conceal family secrets and lies. The series has amassed a committed following. It touches on all the persuasions that make for good programming, and does so while keeping a respectable distance from the real headlines we look away from.

Wynn claims that she and her partner pitched the show to ABC and were once again rejected. She furthermore believes that ABC and Oprah were in cahoots when they spurred her shot as major network screenwriter, believing the two parties acted on an unspoken agreement to purchase Greenleaf instead. If these claims have any truth to them, Oprah would likely have had to act fast upon the original script. Shannan Lynette Wynn and the Pastor are asking for hundreds of thousands in damages.
