"It’s not ours anymore."

Issa Rae recently opened up to Glamour Magazine explaining how her successful career had "no blueprint" which basically means she followed her heart when recreating her life's trials and tribulations of being a Black woman into a YouTube series for people to relate to. After her work rose in popularity she landed a TV deal at HBO and Insecure was born and has lived to see the day of three seasons.

“You can always tell when [a black show] feels overly explained. If you’re targeting a specific audience, there’s a shorthand people ofcolor have, where you don’t need to explain it,” she told the publication. She added how the success is also thanks to the minority crew of writers. “I could never do this show and have a predominantly white staff,” she added.

In another part of the feature, Issa explains how much former First Lady Michelle Obama was such a fan of season two's ending. “She had just finished watching the finale, and she was like, ‘That fakeout — how could you do that? I thought you and Lawrence were going to live happily ever after.'" As for the current First Lady, Issa would not be so keen on Melania Trump being into the show.

“If Melania [Trump] said that to me, I would be like, ‘Well, I guess it’s canceled. We’re not making this show. It’s not ours anymore,’” she said.
