Summertime is meant for beaches, pool parties, tanning, vacations, flings, friends, and most importantly, taking a mental break. Even if you're an adult, and Summer is just another three months in the working year, there's still an undeniable allure. Maybe it's because all the people who actually stuck to their New Year's resolutions to get in the gym are out and about looking gorgeous. Maybe it's because margaritas are frozen and children are running the street with no curfews. Then again, it could be the blockbuster movies that tend to reign over the Summer box office. For me, it will be the return of a few shows.
Summer 2018 has plenty to offer when it comes to returning shows. Most notably, Power is returning to Starz, with Ghost, Tommy, and Kanan set to team up to avenge the death of Raina. Marvel is bringing Luke Cage back for a second season, where Luke will meet his match against a mysterious enemy called Bushmaster, who seems to have the same powers as our hero. The superhero series isn't all that Netflix has to offer this Summer though, as Orange is the New Black is also set to return.
Comedic genius Issa Rae will be heading back to HBO for a third season of her breakout series Insecure, while the Home Box Office network will also welcome back Dwayne Johnson's Ballers for another season of testosterone-fueled mayhem. Rather than going outside and enjoying the beautiful weather, these shows will give you an excuse to stay inside, where there's air conditioning and microwavable dinners.
Luke Cage
Premiere Date: June 22
One of the best Marvel shows is returning for season 2, and we couldn’t be more excited. Luke Cage may have cleared his name and helped rescue New York from The Hand, but now he is faced with an even bigger threat. A criminal mastermind known as Bushmaster has appeared, and he’s strong enough to take Cage down.
Power
Premiere Date: July 1
“My daughter is dead, someone has to pay for it,” Omari Hardwick’s Ghost explains in the first trailer for season five of Power. The second most-watched show on cable behind Game of Thrones is back to continue the story of Ghost, a gangster who can’t seem to get out of the life.
Orange Is The New Black
Premiere Date: July 27
The sixth season of Orange is the New Black is right around the corner. The ladies of Litchfield are saying goodbye to their home for the last five seasons after a riot left the detention center in shambles. Now Netflix’s leading ladies are headed to a maximum security jail, where the stakes will undoubtedly be much higher.
Preacher
Premiere Date: June 24
Based on a comic book of the same name, Preacher is a refreshing drama about supernatural forces. Dominic Cooper plays a preacher who becomes possessed with the forbidden child of an angel and a demon. The supernatural entity gives him the ability to control people who listen to his words, which sets him on a path to find God. He’s accompanied by his crazy ex-girlfriend and a vampire, all while being hunted by an assassin from Hell. Oh, and the assassin is also hired by angels.
Snowfall
Premiere Date: July 19
Created by John Singleton, Snowfall follows the beginning of the crack epidemic in Los Angeles. Set in the early eighties, this crime drama pursues several different characters whose lives will never be the same after crack takes over Southern California.

Insecure
Premiere Date: August 12
Issa Rae’s breakout comedy series is back for a third season. Issa essentially plays herself, exploring the ups and downs of life as a black woman in 2018. After cheating on her lover and being caught in between two men, season three will see Issa (hopefully) picking up the pieces and learning from her mistakes.
Ballers
Premiere Date: August 12
Dwayne Johnson is in everything. Yet somehow, he has found the time keep Ballers rolling for a fourth season. This August, the former football player turned sports agent (played by Johnson) is looking to expand his business. This show is essentially a nod to Entourage, so expect plenty of testosterone and gorgeous women.
