Wanna Thompson is a 26-year-old hip-hop fan who has opinions, just like everybody else, on her favourite artists and upcoming acts in the genre. She runs her own blog that focuses on music, culture, and lifestyle and she freelances for publications of the same vibe. One day Wanna hopped on Twitter and sent out a tweet that has effectively changed her life when she tweeted about Nicki Minaj saying the following:
“You know how dope it would be if Nicki put out mature content? No silly. Just reflecting on past relationships, being a boss, hardships, etc. She’s touching 40 soon, a new direction is needed.”
After she shared her tweet to her then 14,000 followers, the Nicki Minaj fan club followed-up with vicious attacks across her Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, email and even her own cellphone, she told The New York Times. Even Nicki sent Wanna a personal Twitter message going IN on her for once again, just sharing her opinion. "Eat a dick u hating ass hoe," Nicki said sent to Wanna, among other things.
“I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy,” Wanna told the publication, adding how she's “physically drained” and “mentally depleted.”
The tweet has affected Wanna's personal life, as people have attacked her daughter and she even lost an internship writing for KarenCivil.com, not knowing that Nicki Minaj was a client of the brand. The email she received letting her know that her time with the blog was over, said that she broke a Non Disclosure Agreement - that Wanna denies.
"Let me clarify a few things.... I was told that I violated the NDA that I signed, this is NOT true. Unfortunately for legal reasons, I cannot comment further on the details," she said on Instagram. "I would NEVER violate a NDA or any other contractual agreement with respect to keeping information private."
