It should come as no surprise to anybody remotely following the political landscape that Hollywood harbors a strong dislike for President Donald Trump. Therefore, it is equally unsurprising that his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame has been a point of contention; it has gotten so bad that the Hollywood City Council has decided to make a power move of sorts. CNN reports that the City Council cast a unanimous vote in favor of removing Trump's star.
"The West Hollywood City Council did not pass the resolution because Donald Trump is a conservative or a Republican, explains Mayor John Duran. "Earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is an honor. When one belittles and attacks minorities, immigrants, Muslims, people with disabilities or women -- the honor no longer exists." The West Hollywood mayor even took to Twitter to compare Trump to Harry Potter's mortal nemesis, Lord Voldemort, hash-tagging the announcement with "horcrux destroyed."
Unfortunately for those looking to rid the walkway of any-and-all things Trump, the victory was merely symbolic. The motion was, however, passed to The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, who have final say over iconic tourist spot. "Once we receive a communication from the City of West Hollywood, it will be referred to our Executive Committee for consideration at their next meeting. As of now, there are no plans to remove any stars from the Hollywood Walk of Fame," President Leron Gubler explained. He does, however, make it feel like an unlikely conclusion. "The West Hollywood City Council does not have jurisdiction over the Hollywood Walk of Fame."
It should be noted that throughout history, no star has ever been removed from the Walk Of Fame. That does not include half-measured removal attempts via pickaxe, a la drunken prospector. As of now, the fate of Trump's star hangs in the balance.
