Donald Glover introduced Lando Calrissian to a new generation in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Although the Han Solo origin story did not perform well at the box office and caused Lucasfilm to rethink their movie strategy, Glover did an amazing job in the film. Perhaps his acting made director JJ Abrams realize that Calrissian is an integral part of Star Wars lore. He was missing in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, but now that his best friend Han is dead, and Luke has perished as well, the Rebellion needs all the help it can get.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Billy Dee Williams will be returning to a galaxy far, far away. Williams, who played Lando in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, is set to reprise his role as the smooth-talking general in Star Wars IX. He had a small role in Empire that placed him at odds with the heroes after he betrays Han and gets him placed in frozen carbonite. His role was stepped up a bit in the follow-up film, and Lando piloted the Millennium Falcon into the second Death Star, helping defeat the evil Empire. Star Wars IX is set to hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
