Ryan Reynolds is to FOX, what Robery Downey Jr. is to Disney. Downey jumpstarted the Avengers franchise, and years later, Reynolds did the same for FOX's X-men centered universe. Although the X-Men movies do make decent box-office earnings, they are nowhere near as lucrative at the movies coming from Disney. Just like Downey Jr. did two solo films before embarking on the first Avengers superhero mash-up, Reynolds now has two solo Deadpool films under his belt. Following the Downey Jr. blueprint, a superhero team up would be the next step.
Speaking with Variety, while on the red carpet in New York for the Deadpool 2 premiere, Ryan Reynolds opened up about the possibility of a Deadpool 3 and the X-Force film that is already in development. "Well there's talks about an 'X-force' film," explained Reynolds after being asked about a sequel. "Which is not really 'Deadpool 3,' but it's sorta a group effort. 'Deadpool 3' we'll see, I don't know. Right now, at this point, I don't even want to think about it. But down the road, I'm sure we'll figure it out."
Deadpool 2 director David Leitch also gave an update on X-force. "They've been developing it for awhile, and Drew Goddard is on board. And he's a great writer and a great filmmaker and I think they’re trying to take these characters and develop this universe," he stated.
