Rage Against The Machine alumni Tom Morello has dropped off his The Atlas Underground album, and both RZA and GZA have decided to hold it down for the mission. This latest single opens up on an intriguing note, with thunderous vocals belting out "rise like coyotes, rise like coal-blackened thunder!" While the thought of coyotes rising up the hierarchy of the animal kingdom is alarming to say the least, given their typically mangy nature, we think we understand the message here. "Vigilante Nocturno, test the chains, gnaw the screws!" he continues, in a theatrical cadence.
Once the grandiose chorus concludes, GZA slides in for a dose of social reflection, and while it's not exactly the preferred production aesthetic, his gift of gab remains appreciated. RZA picks up where his compatriot leaves off, rapping about today's state of affairs. "In all reality police brutality cause too many casualties," raps Bobby D, "it starts from the improper training, brainwashing of their faculty." It's certainly a different backdrop for the Wu-Tang legends, especially when the song climaxes into an EDM fused, pop-rock tinged anthem. Yet the cause is righteous, and a Wu-Tang presence is seldom unappreciated.
