Yesterday, Jada Pinkett Smith took fans down memory lane, sharing a clip from her first meeting with NWA legend Eazy-E. The footage showcases a young Pinkett Smith on a talk show, where she has the chance to speak directly to the Eazy-Duz-It rapper. Unfortunately for Eazy, Jada seemed to take issue with some of his more misogynistic lyrics, and she had no trouble letting him know her true feelings.
Politely yet firmly, Jada fills him in on her perspective, saying "I told him that before I met him today I thought he was a woman hater because of his music." She proceeds to show respect to his entrepreneurial prowess, while imploring him to use his platform to spread positivity. "Him owning his own record company, can make a change within his community, to uplift us," says an impassioned Smith.
While Pinkett-Smith had yet to break out as an actress, she still carried herself with confidence and poise. So much so, that a young Eazy-E seemed humbled by her words. "“When I listen to his music I want to feel good about myself and my people, and I said ‘Eric, you have the power to do that," says Jada, leaving Eazy with what looks like a shy smile on his face; perhaps he's not used to being called out so confidently.
He does seem to acknowledge the impact of her words, and claims that his music does occasionally push a positive message. According to Smith, the pair became "the best of friends" after the show was over. Check out the nostalgic clip below, courtesy of Jada Pinkett-Smith's IG.
