Elderly people are presumed to enjoy the peace and quiet. Headbanging to heavy metal and senior citizens don't usually go well together. Two older German men defied societal norms though when they attended the Wacken Open Air Festival. Wacken Open Air is one of the biggest heavy metal festivals in the world. It takes place in a small town in northern Germany where the population is under 2,000 people. The four-day festival brings in 75,000 fans, turning the peaceful and quiet atmosphere into one giant party. Headlining acts this year included Judas Priest, Arch Enemy, Hatebreed, In Flames, Danzig, In Extremo, and Eskimo Callboy. Two elderly men escaped their nursing home to join the festivities, prompting local authorities to go on a manhunt to recover the senior citizens.
According to the New York Post, the two men were found at around 3 AM at the Wacken Festival after the nursing home reported them missing several hours earlier. A spokeswoman for the police said that the men were "disoriented and dazed" when they were found. Still, the elderly metalheads were reluctant to leave with authorities. "They obviously liked the metal festival," police spokeswoman Merle Neufeld stated. "The care home quickly organized a return transport after police picked them up."
