Eminem came out of nowhere with his surprise album Kamikaze this past weekend, and his multiple disses have been the talk of the industry. Em's last album, Revival, was released late last year, but it received scathing reviews from many critics. The commercialized rollout, which featured singles with Beyonce and Ed Sheeran, was not well received. Then, Em wildly leaped onto the political battlefield and attempted to initiate a back and forth with Donald Trump. Trump, whose sensitive personality is usually bruised by any form of negative press, decided not to respond to Em. The entire Revival situation was just off-putting for many fans of the legendary rapper, and Eminem took his time to craft Kamikaze as a response to all those who doubted his skill.
One of the media personalities that dragged Revival was DJ Akademiks. Joe Budden and Akademiks were still working together on Everyday Struggle at the time, and together, they trashed Em's ninth studio album. Marshall struck back at Akademiks and Budden on the song "Fall" when he raps:
"Somebody tell Budden before I snap, he better fasten it
Or have his body bag get zipped
The closest thing he's had to hits is smackin' bitches
And don't make me have to give it back to Akademiks
Say this shit is trash again, I'll have you twisted
Like you had it when you thought you had me slippin' at the telly
Even when I'm gettin' brain, you'll never catch me with a thot
Lackin' with it, "he ain't spittin' like this on his last shit"
Ho, you better go back and listen
You know me better, thinkin' I'll slow or let up
Call it trap 'cause it's a total setup
Hopin' that you rappers fall in that"
In response to the diss, Akademiks broke down his side of the story. After a winded backstory, where he explains why he and Budden trashed Revival, Ak doubles down on his criticism. "I thought it was only Joe getting dissed, I got name dropped and dissed. And I'm like, 'the fuck did I do?" he asks no one in particular. He continued on to tell Em that Revival was "weak" and "light sauce." "And you have clearly understood the fact that... and you know what I like about this Kamikaze project, and I haven't really formulated a full opinion on it. But what I do know so far is that he's addressing everything people have said over social media, on Youtube, on Instagram." Check out Akademiks full response below.
