Kelvin Benjamin was traded from the Carolina Panthers last season to the Buffalo Bills, but it appears that he isn't ready to move on. In a recent interview with The Athletic, Benjamin took shots at quarterback Cam Newton, who he played with for four years. Their time together was far from perfect, even if it started out magnificent. After a good rookie season, Benjamin suffered from an ACL injury, and his connection with Newton was never the same afterward. Benjamin claims that he was never a good fit for the Panthers in the first place.
"I mean, I felt like I would've been even more successful if... Looking back on it, I should've just been drafted by somebody else," he told The Athletic. "I should've never went to Carolina. Truly, I just think Carolina was bad for me. It was a bad fit from the get-go." He continued on to reveal that he believes the quarterback situation was the reason for his failures. "If you would've put me with any other quarterback, let's be real, you know what I'm saying? Any other accurate quarterback like [Aaron] Rodgers or Eli Manning or Big Ben [Roethlisberger] -anybody!- quarterbacks with knowledge, that know how to place a ball and give you a better chance to catch the ball. It just felt like I wasn't in that position." Benjamin also took to Twitter to defend his comments after fans began to criticize him.
Cam Newton seemingly responded to Benjamin via an Instagram Story post, where he stated, "I ain’t gonna go back and forth with him, I’m just gonna work."
