Late last year, we included Monte Booker on our list of producers pushing the boundaries in rap music. There are plenty of music makers that attempt to work outside of the box and while it can sound careless from some, Monte Booker has proven to have an inspired sound. His work on Smino's Blkswn is noteworthy as the album has such a particular vibe that can only be attributed to the production and mixing. He's been inactive for much of this year but he was feeling himself recently, releasing a flip of XXXTentacion's "SAD!" onto his SoundCloud.
As one of the most popular songs from the late XXXTentacion, "SAD!" has gotten the remix treatment from a few budding artists and producers. Monte Booker's flip stands right at the top with some of the best remixes of the song. The track's upload came alongside a message to his fans, stating that he's back and we couldn't be any more excited.
It will be interesting to see who Booker works with in the future as his sound feels appropriate for a number of artists that thrive over unorthodox stylings. How are you feeling about the new flip?
Quotable Lyrics:
Who am I? Someone that's afraid to let go, uh
You decide, if you're ever gonna let me know, yeah
Suicide, if you ever try to let go, uh
I'm sad and low, yeah, I'm sad I know, yeah
