21 Savage has sound advice for rappers looking to curb their fiscal spending. In an interview with Vogue magazine, 21 explained his decision to swear off jewelry, and his rationale is dare I say, quite respectable, even for a rapper. The interview was staged in preparation of the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2019 menswear show in NYC he is somehow taking part in. High Fashion just can't get enough of hip hop endorsement deals, and why should these rappers defy the odds and say no?
21 Savage explained that he never met a rich person that was decked out head to toe: "Every time I meet someone who’s very, very rich, like wealthy, I’ve never seen them with jewelry on," he says. "And ever since I’ve been saving money and not spending it on jewelry, I’ve been getting way richer."
In theory, the 50k that goes to a jeweler in exchange for a "buss down watch" could very well feed starving family of tear drop assassins. 21 decries seeing jewelry on every wrist and neck, every rapper with a check. The scene he set at Vogue's head office encapsulates his mentality to a tee. Picture 21 wearing Saint Laurent garms head to toe with a box of Dominoes pizza sitting square on his lap, no jewels in sight.
